No MBA for me.

I could never run a company. I’m too idealistic.

If I did, it would have to be the kind of place where everyone eats gourmet lunches for free. There would be no dress code, and everyone that worked there would be creative and intense and passionate about her job. She would also be very well paid. It would be humanitarian, and enviornmentally friendly, and open source, and all of our products would be beautifully designed and perfectly calibrated. Everyone would feel a part of the big picture, and there would be a trampoline in the employee lounge. It would be like some strange combination of Apple, Google, and elementary school.

That should be the only type of company. I know why open-sourcing has its limits, but I hate the idea that if I go into programming I might have to wear a suit. That’s the kind of job you do in pajamas with a half-finished bowl of ice cream sitting perilously loosely in your lap.
Can you get this company, and then sell your employees the office they work in? Like a condominium, or at least an apartment, instead of a borrowed piece of property.

Have you ever read Geeks? It’s about these two computer genius kids that move from the middle of nowhere to Chicago. They, too, have concerns about having to wear suits to work. A lot of it is about the geek vs. suit thing (suit the person, not suit the outfit). Good book.

I was gonna say. That sounds very much like Google. Who has all those things. Not the trampoline though. Their boardroom table is a ping pong table. And they have lunch time volleyball games.
