Belated Father’s Day Post

My father gets the shaft in our family. He’s the only male (I have one sister), the only non-vegetarian, and the only big sports fan (though my mother sometimes watches football with him). He’s the most-ridiculed member of the family as well. He takes all this very, very well. Thus, we tried to have a very nice father’s day in his honor.

I got up early and made an omelet. It came out very well, too, for being made by someone who had never done it before. It didn’t turn into scrambled eggs.

Afterwards, I gave him the golf cart thing he wanted and we all went on a hike. Boston was next- he wanted to see the Harbor Walk, which was built as a part of the Big Dig. It was gorgeous out, and the Harbor Walk is great. It’s a walkway that goes all along Boston Harbour, with lots of benches and other places to sit. We got ice cream in Fanuel Hall and left to go to my grandparents’ house.

You may remember that my grandparents are moving to a condo. They’re living there now, and we had one last gathering in the old place. It looks really strange with all the stuff moved out- all the rooms seem tiny. The bedrooms on the second floor (all four of them) don’t look like they could hold any furniture at all, and the two rooms in the attic seem like they can barely hold people. We all had to bring our own chairs so that we’d have a place to sit.

All the grandchildren present (twelve of us) got to choose something from the leftover junk to take home with them. I got the stool that we always used to want to sit on at dinner- it has cool steps that fold in and out! I have no idea what I’m going to do with it, but it has sentimental value. I used to love that thing. Besides, everyone was instructed to take away anything that was offered, anything at all- even if they threw it away on the way home. My grandparents have way too much stuff, and my grandmother won’t get rid of any of it. We must intervene!

My sister and I are the only ones who haven’t seen the new condo yet. They say it’s very nice.
